The Kitchen

Milner Field kitchen. The kitchen and laundry wing of Milner Field was located at the eastern end of the site.

Although part of the main house, it was somewhat set apart to take advantage of the gentle downward slope of the landscape and the prevailing wind. In this way the sounds and smells of domestic chores would not disturb the main body of the house.

The Kitchen itself was based on the famous, and at the time fashionable, octagonal Abbots’ Kitchen at Glastonbury Abbey.
